Gulfport claims 6A soccer title
They say to be the best, you’ve gotta beat the best and that’s exactly what the Gulfport soccer team did on Saturday for the second time this season to claim its second ever state championship. The Admirals were going up against their former coach, Cecil Hinds, who led them to their last state title in 2010. This time, Henrik Madsen guided them to the crown. Gulfport also took down the Jaguars in the regular season, 2-0, leaving no doubt about its status as top dog over its class 6A foe that won it all as recently as 2016. Long Beach boys and girls are still in search of their first-ever respective titles with the Lady Bearcats falling in a golden goal overtime period. The St. Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaws bring home the hardware with a 1-0 victory.

With a win against Wofford, two against USC Upstate and Evansville, the Cats are primed to continue that win streak. They will be taking on Xavier at home on Tuesday. Their schedule only gets tougher though. Check out what head coach Nick Mingione had to say about his team's upcoming schedule.
