iPhone Tip #9 - Customize Your Music Controls
New playing and accessing features
By Shirley Craig, Rev Up Transmedia
This is Part 9 of a series by Shirley Craig called  HIDDEN iPHONE TIPS & TRICKS

How do you like to sort  your music? Some people prefer to do it by playlist, others by artist or albums.

There are seven ways to organize your music by Playlist, Artist, Songs, Albums, Compilations, Composers and Genres.

Here's how:

Tap on the Music App to open the iPod built into your iPhone.

Select More from the bottom menu...

...and then select Edit.

Here are the seven choices. To change your sort preferences, simply drag and drop them to the bottom menu to replace the existing icons.

If you have Podcasts and Audio Books on your iPhone, these choices will also be available options too.

If you're a Podcast fan, you might want to consider downloading Apple's Podcast app, so that you can keep them all separate in that app. It's free from the App Store.

Access your Audio Controls at Anytime!

To access your iPod audio controls at any time, regardless of what app you are using, simply double click the Home button and it will bring up a rolling menu of all the apps which you have open. Use your finger to slide the menu to the right and that will display your iPod controls. When you tap Play, it will show the title of song currently playing.

This is also where you can lock the orientation of your iPhone to stay vertical at all times. Simply tap on the Arrow Circle and a Padlock will appear in the icon. Tap the Padlock and your iPhone will no longer shift to horizontal view. However, keep in mind, if you lock your iPhone in vertical mode, you won't see Cover Flow on your iPod when you turn your phone to horizontal. To unlock the Padlock Tap icon again.

You can also access your iPod controls when your iPhone is locked. Just double tap the Home button and your iPod controls will appear.

If you tap on the Arrow Up icon, (this is the AirPlay icon), it will bring up a screen which will allow you play your music through AirPlay via your Apple TV and other devices. Simply select the device you want to stream to.

Audio Scrubbing Controls.

When you are in the Play mode, you will see new Scrubbing Controls. By moving your finger on the scrub bar, you can change the speed of the song. If you are not seeing these options, just tap the album artwork and they will appear.

Then, you can slide your finger down to adjust the scrubbing rate.

You can also select the three other options below the scrub bar. From the left: the Loop icon to replay the song, Genuis icon to select similar music from your library, or the Shuffle icon to shuffle your music plays. By the way, you can also shake your iPhone and your music will shuffle instantly! Just shake again to turn Shuffle off.

And finally, if you're like to see the lyrics of any particular song in your library, you can load them up in iTunes and they will display on your iPhone.

Here's how to do it in iTunes. This, unfortunately, is not an automatic feature of iTunes. You have to go to the internet to get the lyrics and cut and paste them manually into iTunes.

Open iTunes and select any song in your library, then right click on the arrow to the right of the song title. Scroll down to Get Info.

This will bring up another window and this is where you copy and past the lyrics, which will show up on your iPhone once you sync it to iTunes.
