http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6791593?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Fri, 17 Feb 2017 11:21:07 +0000 Money in Your Pocket Minute: 2-17-17 Financial Advisor Rick Reagan gives his views on ride sharing and why we're still waiting for it in New York State. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6791593?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WSYR ABC 9 Syracuse done. rick: i was fortunate enough to go to florida last week and for the first time ever i decided that i would try uber. now i don't know why i haven't done this before other than.it's not legal here in central new york! and count me as very impressed by this. all i would do is, whenever i wanted to go somewhere, i'd say i needed an uber and i'd say where i wanted to go and i'd get picked up very quickly, within 30 seconds to 2 minutes every single time. and then the prices on it, very reasonable, much less expensive than to use a cab. so very easy to get around, quick and, by the way, you're not exchanging any money. it's all taken care of through the app. so why don't we have it here in new york? well the governor has proposed that we can get it here in central new york and part of the proposal they would put a tax on the uber which would provide money to the state and a little bit to municipalities. so from an income standpoint we've really got something to gain as well as what i found to be a very convenient service. so why don't we have it? one word: lobbyists. they're holding it up in albany. there's the taxi lobby, which that one i do understand but then there is the insurance lobby, and there is attorneys lobbies in there trying to get the trial lawyers so that if there were accidents there'd be very big lawsuits and awards associated with them. so unfortunately typical new york keeping us from something that i think otherwise is just a great experience and can help the area financially. with your money in your pocket minute, i'm rick
