http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12235/6802347?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Fri, 24 Feb 2017 13:23:51 +0000 What Luke Wilson Has To Say About Voice Acting What Luke Wilson Has To Say About Voice Acting http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12235/6802347?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KTVX ABC 4 Salt Lake City the announcer: you're watching abc 4 utah, "good morning utah." >> new movies are out this weekend. and our film critic, tony toscano, knows all about them. apparently, he's doing a little extra work today. >> we got these rock dog hats and tamborines. talking picture giving these away. >> you're doing this? >> yeah. log onto our facebook page and you'll see the way to win those. >> ok. >> so you have celebrations here. should i ask you what movie we're talking about? >> we're going to be talking about rock dog. critics weren't allowed to see anything else. have i nothing but rock dog today >> there we go. >> nothing but rock dog. first of all, hi a chance to chance so sit with the star, luke wilson, and we chatted a little bit about voice work. >> any advice for up and coupling musicians? >> never stop. even when your dad says stop! >> reporter: it is a different kind of acting. because you have to reply on that eight-year-old kid inside of you to imagine everything that's going on, while you're doing the voice work. >> yeah. you do. i mean, i would kind of get to laughing sometimes with the director where he would say, o k luke, that sounds good. try and do it a little younger. and i'd be think, gosh, i'm, like, 45. this is hard to do a kid's voice. but that was -- that was actually part of the fun is, like you were saying, trying to get in touch with your inner child. >> you voice this movie almost two years ago. and then you have to come back in for retakes and rewrites. >> yeah. >> that process can be quite a bit. >> that's one of the interesting things about it for me. i worked on big budget movies and lower budget movies. but, you know, it always takes just a few months to shoot them. and it might take them a year to come out. but on the animated films like this one where they're pretty expenseive to make, and you have hundreds of animators and, yeah. you go in, you know, every few months and do another few scenes. yeah, there's quite -- there's so many moving parts, and, yeah. you realize how much effort goes into them. you think kids movie will be simple. but it's quite a bit more involved that your average live action film. >> i'm completely paralyzed! except for the mouth. the mouth is -- and my finger. >> rock dog. >> it looks like it could be funny. >> you know what? you'd be wrong. >> you've shattered my dreams. >> the hats are great. the tamborines are wonderful. however it didn't live up to what it should have bun. yeah. rock dog, yeah. i gave it a d. >> that's not good. >> it had no story. the animation was actually pretty good. it kind of reminded me about hong kong fuey on tv. >> it looks like it's rock band but a cartoon version. you heard of that game? >> surprise willingly, there's very -- surprisingly, there's very little muse nick this. i thought they would have a great sound track. the story just was lacking. it seemed to be lazy in a lot of places. very slow. i'm not sure if even the little kids would follow it. but it is in color. there's a good thing. >> now in techni. color. >> i gave it a d. like i said we -- it is the only thing i could review this weekend. >> so let's get to the thing every wants to know who. will win best picture on sunday? >> it's going to be "la la land." i said that a couple of weeks ago. i still think that's the case. andrew garfield is the front running for best actor, em. ma stone best actress. and best director i think it's going to be mel gibson. >> no kidding? >> for "hacksaw ridge." i'll post those predictions later. >> tv's talking pictures on facebook is the place to go. we love having you in >> i love being here on national chip
