http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6807861?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Tue, 28 Feb 2017 22:52:39 +0000 Pilots N Pets Pilots N Pets http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6807861?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WCIA g >> finding a home for rescue dogs is a challenge. >> one group has a unique way to get pets a forever home by taking to the sky. ryan burk is here with more. >> it's really an amazing program that pets and pilots. they are a a national organization that uses volunteer pilots to transfer pets to cities where they have a better chance of getting adopted. cool program so i followed along as one dog made its way to memphis, tennessee to write here in champaign, urbana. it's early morning at willard airport and an important passenger has just been cleared to land. he is a cheering section in his terminal and is on his own private plane. he's not a celebrity, he's just one happy husky. >> he slept all the way, he did good. >> the dog named pilot is enjoying a smooth flight provided by pilots and pause. followed by a life that's been anything but smooth. >> he was a bandit in someone's yard in memphis, tennessee. furniture and their unwanted dog in the yard. neighbors were feeding him for a week and they put out a plea on social media. >> getting adopted in memphis can be tough which is why pilots flew him to central illinois. - - shows they don't call this the volunteer state for nothing. >> these animals are in danger of being euthanized. get them transferred where they have a better chance of being adopted. >> getting the help for animals far away is an amazing opportunity. >> we were going to do a road transport but saw pilots and pause. - - spent a lot of time coordinating and now he is here. >> for privates who volunteer for the program, it's more than an excuse to fly. it's a chance to give dogs who led a difficult lives, new homes. >> i'm fostering a dog in my house. that dog was abandoned in a house that got sold. it doesn't make sense. >> a lot of times they are in the shelter so long, they need a new crowd to get different exposure. they will come here and within a week they will have four or five applications. it's getting new eyes and have new opportunities for them. >> new opportunity to turn a new husky, a home for a lifetime. very happy ending to this story. abby tells me the pilots found a forever home with a family in central illinois. there's plenty more pets, we have a link on ciliving.tv we you can find all
