((paul joncich)) >> they're called food huggers ... and tonight consumer advcoate michelle mortensen is putting it... to the try it before you buy it test.. https://www.yout ube.com/watch?v =cck6n-zkhck if you love your food .. give it a hug. that's the slogan of food huggers these little silicon food savers that pop on just about everything... and supposedly keep food super fresh ((1;24 and we're going to try it before you buy it to see if it really works ... so let's put it to the test. )) for this one i grabbed produce of all shapes and sizes... cut them up ... and slapped on the food huggers. ((1;56 ooh did you hear that. )) that's a vaccum seal. these food huggers already appear to be working ... but the real test is to see how it compares to food not in a food hugger so we put all the remaining food in plastic baggies and wait. we even put a food hugger on a diet coke because they can be used on cans and jars too. 5 hours later -- i check in on the coke ((00:10 let's see if the pop has some pop .. the soda has some sizzle ... it's perfectly sparkling .. i guess it worked so far )) normally after 5 hours .. an open can of soda would be pretty flat ... but so far so good. 19 hours later .. i checkagain ... ((:07 oooh ... our diet coke might be a fail since it looks like the food hugger popped off..)) but when i poured it in a glass ... it had some sizzle .. and ... ((:07 it doesn't taste bad )) i checked on the banana and apple too ... .. ((:33 looks pretty good i wouldn;t be opposed to eating that )) so the test continues.... we wait another 24 hours ... and try out that coke ... that has now been open for 2 days. ((:14 it's got a little bit a zip )) no way a plastic bag could keep soda fresh that long ... so food huggers get the win here. however our bananas ((:45 this is truly disgusting )) didn't fair so well ... but everything else looks good .. so the test conitnues... 5 days later i check out all the food. and everything in a food huggers looked and tasetd great. the apple .. the onion ... the cucumber .. the orange and lemon. but here's the kicker ... the plastic baggie versions looked and tasted just as good. so they work ... but do you need them??? that's debatable. they worked great on cans of coke. but on food ... there was no difference. however ... they are reusable... ((::05 where as these are not... )) and less trash is always a good thing. food huggers come in a variety of shapes and sizes and cost about 12 bucks. got something you want me to try before you buy -- hit me up on facebook -- i'm mm ((christianne klein)) >>> thanks for watching 8 news now at five... the valley's news leader. don't forget you can always find us on facebook, twitter, and
