FEATURED DESIGNER SHEILA JAY AND EMERGING DESIGNER CASEY BECK JOIN AMY Mon, 03 Apr 2017 14:12:13 +0000 MEMPHIS FASHION WEEK DESIGNERS FEATURED DESIGNER SHEILA JAY AND EMERGING DESIGNER CASEY BECK JOIN AMY WATN >> local memphis live continues with your host, amy speropoulos. b3 each year memphis fashion week one way to highlight local and national fashion designers and help provide thousands of dollars in scholarship money to help other up-and-coming designers get their start. welcome featured designer and our other guest. thank you so much for being with us thank you for having us. >>amy: i don't know which one wants to start so i'm going to just open it up. tell me how you got involved in this and why you think it is portent for our community. >> i started sewing garments about three years ago, i am a third-generation seamstress. my grandmother and mother were seamstresses. >>amy: wow! >> i want to do things i like to wear and i started making them for myself and my sisters and word-of-mouth kind of got out and i started creating different pieces myself and gained some popularity and momentum and here i am right now. >>amy: i love it i love your jacket. that is so beautiful. casey, at about you? >> i designed a few things when i was younger but had someone else create them for me. a few years ago i was a volunteer for memphis fashion week. i saw a lot of designers and realized this was not their full-time job. they did other things and were other people so i thought i was a regular person so i can design things if i want to. this is my second year. b3 i love it. you guys brought in some models today with your designs let's start with you, sheila, and just show was of the models and tell us what they are wearing and what inspired you. >> sarah is wearing my denim suit. it is from my line called airplane mode. it is a traveling light among several other pieces are reversible. who doesn't need a good denim suit? when you are traveling you can match the jacket at different pieces. it is also very comfortable. that is darling. and next we have casey. i love that also. beautiful. >> by inspiration for both of my pieces is i wanted them to be light in every colors and paired with leather so kind of a contrast of the material and still feeling springlike. this has the leather on top with a silk land skirt. >>amy: look at that. beautiful. i love it. so, sheila, i just love the fact that denim this is fabulous. it looks so comfortable. >> this is a handstitched chevron, the back and front side of the denim. it is a simple little minidress with exposed zipper in the back. it is chic and pretty. i thought of the kentucky derby when i created it. b3 the exposed zipper has made a comeback i love that. and that, you could almost on a jacket. >> you control on a dinner jacket. >>amy: that is why you are designers. okay. i'm getting it. and this is beautiful. i love this. >> i love this because i think it's really great force ring. it is a jacket but it is also sleeveless and underneath it is a silk dress with an asymmetrical hemline. the contrast of soft with a more masculine mother. >>amy: i love these colors. it seems like a spring but you could wear it with dark and take a little difference for the fall. ladies, thank you so much. ladies, thank you so much we so appreciate it. memphis fashion week, you want to go definitely to some other shows if not all of their shows. memphis fashion week.board, check them out and support our local designers and photographers and our local models ladies, thank you so much for being with us. >> coming up, we are off to neverland with a live look at the japan going on and clinging soon at evangelical christian school. we will take you there coming up and
