Small Business Week and Upcoming Brown Bag Concerts Wed, 03 May 2017 21:36:47 +0000 Small Business Week and Upcoming Brown Bag Concerts Small Business Week and Upcoming Brown Bag Concerts KARD >>> welcome back. you're here to tell us about the brown bag concert that is coming up and small business week this week. courtney, great to have you here. >> thank you very much. >> what's going on for small by week? >> yes. this week is national small business week, which is recognized by the u.s. small by administration. and it really is a week that we choose to recognize our small businesses across the nation, but specifically here in northeast louisiana and across our state. just in northeast louisiana alone, we have over 7,000 small businesses, which is unbelievable. as a state wide impact that local small businesses around the state make up 97% of our state's employees. so we know that our small businesses are really doing so much for our economy. they pay taxes and employ people that are paying into our road repair, our educational, our school systems, our local parks and playgrounds. they are the heart beat of our community. we just want to take time to thank them for the service they provide to our community. >> absolutely. breakfast is being held tomorrow? >> it is. we're hosting a small awards breakfast tomorrow. we do have all our seats filled so it is not open to the general public. tomorrow morning we will be honoring six locally small by champions in our community. everything from an emerging e tre -- entrepreneur. it is our chance to give credit to them and thank them publicly. >> i always love when the brown bag concerts come up. it's covered. always nice, something to do for lunch. >> absolutely. we kicked it off for today. it was a little windy and chilly, but no rain. every wednesday during may, we'll have a brown bag lunch concert at the pavilion at 7th square right behind the west monroe farmers market. this is from noon to 1. it is covered. we provide chairs. $5 brown bag lunch every wednesday. so if you don't want to do that, you can bring your own lunch or snack. it's a great way to take a break from the business day. we love to see people of all generations there. we had some cute children dancing today. lots of moms come. it is a great way to celebrate local music in our community. we've got some really talented musicians. >> there will be live music every time? >> yes. >> what's your website where someone can get on and look at when they start. >> it's on our calendar of events. every wednesday in may. on our facebook page we also have an event bill that lists pictures of the band or maybe a clip of their music if we have it. you can ask questions, post information. we'll try to remind you if the concert moves because of rain. it's just a great community event. we want to remind everyone, it's completely free. we've got four more wednesdays in may. we've got lots of opportunities for some great music. >> what else is going on in west monroe? >> we just finished our downtown art festival. that was wonderful. so we're still working on downtown west monroe revitalization. we have a historic tour that will be coming very soon. probably in the next four weeks we have hired a consultant to help us study the most historic structures in our downtown west monroe area. we developed a tour based on those stories. it's going to be a self-guided brochure. people will be amazed at some of the unique stories of how these buildings were first built and what their original uses were. this shows that there's some great history in our community. it helps us go back to those buildings and help preserve them. we're excited to share those stories with the rest of the public. >> i look forward to it. courtney, it was great having you. >> thank you very much. >> coming
