Habitat for Humanity Women's Build 2017 Mon, 08 May 2017 14:16:46 +0000 Habitat for Humanity Women's Build 2017 Habitat for Humanity Women's Build 2017 WFRV ahead of the big build. >>> welcome back. today we are going to be raising the roof. the garage at least >> lisa: we are building a home for habitat for humanity women's build. >> millaine: brittany fokker zazz on our team. she joins us in green bay along with heather. hello you two. >> brittany: the 10th annual women billed for habitat for humanity. this is my third year. heather, this is your second. how are you feeling? >> a little bit chilly, but the sun feels warm. >> brittany: we are so excited to get things going. before we start the actual building, let's talk to the executive director for greater green bay habitat for humanity. this is an awesome event for an amazing organization. we were talking before about all the work habitat has done. tell us about the accomplishments. >> today we have 97 homes. when we are done we will have 103. we will take over a blighted area downtown. there will be six families moving in here. that means 10 adults will be paying a mortgage like the rest of us. >> brittany: i don't think people realize how much work it takes to be part of this. >> a single family has to put in 300 sweat equity hours. a family with two parents has to put in 500 sweat equity hours. that's dumb before they move into the home. these families have been great. they are ready to move when we cut the ribbon june 8th. it's been an amazing adventure to take this on. >> brittany: we are going to talk to one of those homeowners right now. monique perez is moving into house 100. how are you feeling? >> i'm so excited. >> brittany: you put a lot of work into this to be able to move into this. what have you been doing lately? >> i've been doing a lot of cooking. providing lunch for the volunteers. >> brittany: you will be paying a mortgage. what is that like as you get ready to move into your house? you got to see the community standing beside you. what is that feel like? >> it's amazing. this is like an investment financially and physically for our family. something we can look forward to and the kids can look forward to having their own space. it's hard to put words to it really. >> brittany: have you gotten to go inside? the building is not done yet, but you are getting there. with do you think? >> it's everything i thought it would look like. it's a dream come true. it's what we wanted. it's awesome. >> brittany: absolutely amazing to see these families like monique perez move into their own homes. women are going to be out here all throughout the week. even some homeowners we met last week have continued to help in the building efforts. heather and i are going to get ready to work in a little bit. are you getting pumped up? >> i'm getting really excited here we are going to start working and we are going to be waiting on you guys. >> brittany: we are going to meet some other homeowners. there are some twin homes we are going to be building. i'm going to give you a little glimpse of what you will be helping us build. we will meet some more homeowners and get ready for women
