http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12513/6911676?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Thu, 11 May 2017 12:05:33 +0000 Roanoke Regional Chamber: Nominate Your Neighbor The Roanoke Regional Chamber is accepting nominees for the 31st annual nominate your neighbor small business awards ceremony. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12513/6911676?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WFXR resigned following the incident. faculty and staff are doing what they can to help the student involved. alexan? >> anchor: all right, the roanoke regional chamber is accepting nominations for the small business awards. they'llbe presented with best new business and technology and small business advocate. one is named the chamber's 2017 small business of the year. now the nomination deadline on friday june twiteder and the event is october 5 and here the roanoke regional chamber joyce is joining us this morning. thanks for joining me. >> thanks for having me. >> this year's mantra is something a little bit different. we'll call it nominate your neighbor. what is it all about? >> it is to nominate who you know and who you really like to use. and it is across the board and it is about bringing it closer to home and many have started small. >> and it helps to keep the revenue flowing within the community and instead of going to the outside sources so to speak, right? >> that's right. it kind of turns over in the community and when you think about it they're the largest business and the ones that employ us and invest in the community and give back to the community. so accident again, anyone can nominate the business. >> and then 35 applicants accepted each year as i understand? >> and actually there is not a limit on the nomination. >> anchor: really? >> and normally we'll highlight and then the retail store for you to buy the products that are handmade or something and they fill out the application and then normally we'll recognize upwards of 100 individuals and businesses. they're advocates and others and like veteran of the year. but most of these are small businesses so we will recognize close to 100 overall. there are also categories for non?profit and not for professor and organizations and health and human services and had several that won at the state as well. >> it is kind of a cool and important business summit coming up may 18th? tell me a little bit more about how businesses can get involved here? >> absolutely. this is a great summit. it is just a morning program. roughly 7:30 starting with virginia western community college while the school is out for the session. so plenty of easy and free parking and it goes until 1:00 and it finishes with lunch by caraba. >> we have the president of the chamber in virginia and a couple of high level panels with the secretary of commerce and trade, todd haymore and others talking about infrastructure in the state and the economic future of the region and what those trends are as well people can sign up and register online and there are interesting break?out sessions as well that people may want to participate in.
