Technology Tuesday June 13, 2017 Wed, 14 Jun 2017 03:12:34 +0000 Technology Tuesday June 13, 2017 Technology Tuesday June 13, 2017 KAMC technology tuesday. new training for the lubbock police department.. to help them track child predators on social media. and a big part of that has to do with parents keeping an eye on their kids' social media activity. but how do you really do that? well, our 'amanda guillen' talked to parents in el paso about how they do it. :12-17 barbara esparza/monitors kids' social media activity 1:06-1:11 charles yarbrough/father of six 1:17-1:23 james franklin/grandfathe r technology is everywhere we turn and it is no secret that young people love their electronic devices... so with the kids out of school and more time on their hands how do parents monitor their children's use of technology? barbara esparza: the way that i try to manage their online activity is they are not allowed to have their phone in their room it is always in a family area and they all check in their phone at 8'oclock it needs to be next to my bed on the night stand and of course we nee to have access to their history or anything that they might have been doing on their phone during the day. a new life lock survey found that 70 percent of parents felt like they could do better when educating their children about online safety...and 37 percent say that they don't set parental controls when their child gets a new smart device... all of the parents that i spoke with said that they do set parental controls on their young childrens devices...however they would not know what to do if their child's account got hacked... charles yarbrough: "that i don't know" charles yarbrough is a father of six kids ranging from 38 to 9 years old... he says technology has really helped his children learn... " it helps them learn they are going to face with life quicker they deal with problems so they know how to deal with it." james franklin, a grandfather says that he also loves technology... james franklin : you can look up anything, anything you want to know it is for education, technology its great, a lot of people think its bad cause they play a lot of games but they also use it for good stuff too. bryan and ron 'amanda
