"like mile six when we first entered the gravel trail the guy ahead of me said he heard and saw a bear. we all formed and line put our hands up and just kept running when we heard it." running for a reason ira edwards using a hand cycle to raise awareness for the disabled community using the hashtag team gimp squad. edwards is in a wheelchair after injurying his back and says he trys to use opportunitys like this to inspire others in similiar situations. in the 5-k race leighanna kolp and her father ran the 5-k to raise money for the hospitalty house. just thirteen kolp lost her leg in september because of a displaced hip and had to be rebuilt. since september had this date marked on her calendar as motivation to finish her first 5k. "i wanted to do something but i never really had the motivation until after surgery." "the goal is for her to be able to run some day. she really desires to do that and this was a really good starting point." switching gears to soccer today the semifinals for the region four president's cup in salt lake city the eighteen u cook inlet girls getting it done beating colorado one to nothing and are headed to the tournaments championship game. they will be playing a team from california tomorrow at eight thirty utah time tomorrow with a trip to nationals on the line. lastly tonight with plenty of daylight to play around in....alaska rugby players are not wasting any of it hosting the alaska midnight summer sevens rugby tournament. the games were held at the alaska mountain rugby grounds over the past two days with tournaments for both men and women... skills ranging from club to open level players. a few teams even flying up from the lower 48 to play. michael melendez is from anchorage and plays for the all army rugby team. which takes elite level players from all over the nation. today he was representing the corps in the tournament, and says it's a great opportunity to bring the community together. "the greatest thing about rugby is it brings everybody together from different teams and cultures around the world. that's what i love about this sport. if your a basketball player...a football player...rugby is a sport where everything can happen to you. if your an athelte just show what you have
