Celebrate local business during Independents Week Thu, 29 Jun 2017 12:24:45 +0000 Celebrate local business during Independents Week Celebrate local business during Independents Week KTVX ABC 4 Salt Lake City >> brian: with independence day in the way we are looking forward to independence week. it is been canceled. and here we have local first utah with us. >> local first utah is a nonprofit organization. we work to educate people with the benefit of buying locally. one of the campaigns we have is independence me. >> brian: what is that? >> annual campaign will be elected officials from across the state signed proclamations july 1 to july 7 is declared. so the governors, the mayor, mayors from tooele down to springdale, richfield, everywhere in between are all in support of this celebration of the independent businesses in the community. >> brian: it's a good day because of independence day and patriotism. but really this is about independent businesses. so not necessarily patriotically more local businesses like say what's an example of that? >> there are dozens and dozens. hundreds of local businesses find out more at work. we have a list of businesses that participate in the campaign and local first utah. >> brian: so it's like a celebration of the businesses where you can only find them here in utah. >> absolutely. >> brian: shall have the businesses in this great time. the government involved and what is really the pledge there? what's going on? >> we encourage citizens to pledge to buy locally this week and the reason is that i think it is patriotic as well as about the community here is utah independent businesses contribute four times more money to the economy than online retailers and chain retailers and national retailers. what it means is for every dollar that we spent at the local on business, $0.55 stays here. we encourage people to vote with their dollars during independence began flapping you. >> brian: i can think of a couple business i want to visit. mostly for food really. restaurants that i'm interested in here. how big is it for the businesses when you have independence week? >> it is spectacular! and allows people to have the holiday time off, family time. you can really be thoughtful in the way you spend your money and time with your family and choose deposits under businesses. >> brian: that is one of the things that they are so many hidden treasures i find. not only in select city but across the entire state that you can only get here and you have a good opportunity to check those out. >> yes. >> brian: would you recommend people begin? >> local is the first stop. there is a list of businesses there and really in your neighborhood. our logo, our green and gold logo fight - by local first. you can know that you are spending your money there it will stay here. >> brian: i like the idea. and you get the stamp of approval from local first which is its own entity. >> yes. 501(c) nonprofit. >> brian: if you want to help support local businesses right
