http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7002952?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Mon, 17 Jul 2017 03:01:16 +0000 Sunday, July 16 Sunday, July 16 http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7002952?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KLBK and thanks for joining us im brittany escobar brittany it looks like lubbock is finally getting to see some fireworks two weeks after many fourth of july celebrations were canceled due to rain. here's a live look at the reagor- dykes fireworks extravaganza out at mackenzie park where people gathered all day. many saying they weren't going to let another storm ruin the celebration this time around. they had hoped to hear some music as well but the concert scheduled for tonight was canceled because today's rain damaged much of the sound equipment. a smaller crowd left some folks with a front row seat. diana and patrick gable/ came to see fireworks "we do this every year-- sometimes we go over there by joyland. this is even better. we don't have to have the trees and all that stuff block our view." colee orf/ executive director of broadway festivals "all of our equipment was totally drenched. we tried to put tarps down and save everything but it was a crazy storm. it just poured and poured and poured. all of our crew people were out here putting tarps on everything and trying to save what they could, but it just didn't happen." brittany we're told they are trying to reschedule the concert at an indoor location at a later date-- we'll be sure to keep you updated. brittany a man remains behind bars after sending authorities on a high speed chase in a stolen truck through multiple counties that ended in a standoff. this is 26-year-old harvey baxter. he's now in the lubbock county jail on a list of charges including evading, resisting arrest, and felon in possession of a firearm. dps troopers tried to stop baxter for a traffic violation near the scurry-nolan county line last night. he refused to stop...starting the chase that went through scurry, garza and lubbock counties. authorities shut down highway 84 near slaton...where the chase ended...but the incident continued. authorities say they then entered a standoff with baxter who was believed to be armed. the truck baxter was in had been reported stolen from lubbock lt. bryan witt//texas dept. of public safety "the lubbock county sheriff's department swat and k-9 unit approached the vehicle and did make an arrest on this suspect. the suspect will be taken to the lubbock county jail. the good thing is it did come to an end the suspect is in custody." brittany we found baxter's criminal history dates back to 2009. brittany the investigation into a suspicious death continues. lubbock police say the body was found at commander's palace mobile home park yesterday afternoon. responding investigators found the circumstances suspicious leading them to open a homicide investigation. we'll continue following this story and bring you the latest here on klbk and at everything lubbock dot com. brittany the family of the teen electrocuted remembering her this weekend. madison coe died while using her cell phone in the bathtub while it was plugged into an extension cord according to the lovington police department. to honor her, family and friends gathered at terra vista middle school for a balloon release...of madison's favorite colors, blue and orange. her family's been speaking out on their tragedy warning other not to make the same deadly mistake. storey muse//sister "i mean you dont really expect something like this to happen some people say it was common sense but stuff happens. i mean accidents happen all the time stuff happens. there is danger in everything that you do. you cant have common sense about accidents you know? were just trying to make this as bright as she was the services and everything were awesome everybody wore bright colors so were trying to incorporate that here like a part of maddies personality will be here today too" brittany madison's sister says her personality was bright and bubbly. brittany a recent chase where the suspect was caught on camera hitting several vehicles and putting officers in danger... is gaining national attention. lubbock police are thanking a- and-e's live p-d show for featuring this case and dash cam video. the show looks at police departments throughout the country and their officers while they're on duty showing what they're dealing with through real time video. lubbock police tell us they're still searching for the suspect, 31-year-old casey canales jr. he's wanted on multiple counts of aggravated assault on a public servant stemming from this incident happening earlier this month in the area of 40th and avenue s. if you have information that could lead police to canales call crimeline at 741-1000. brittany a national organization is threatening to move their conferences out of texas because of two policies they say are harmful and discriminatory. raven ambers explains. this weekend marks the 110th american association of legal libraries conference. this year..it's in austin... 00:00:20:03 "the association double a double l has been in texas three times in the past dozen or so years." (6) the bathroom bill has been named a priority issue for the upcoming special session. supporters of the bill say its about keeping texas women and children safe. 00:02:26:09 "trans people, they want to go to the bathroom just like everybody else." (6) brittany texas' special session is set to start this week.... and lubbock democrats say it's a waste of taxpayer dollars on quote bogus issues. they're planning a rally for tuesday night at the tim cole memorial park. they say this is their way of showing republicans they're angry and ready to fight back. they've also set up a press conference for tomorrow morning that will discuss senate bills two and four. and lubbock mayor dan pope getting ready to host mayors from across west texas. he will co-host the meeting with amarillo's mayor. this is a way for them along with mayors big spring, midland, odessa, san angelo and abilene to discuss common goals and issues for their communitites. the meeting will be wednesday afternoon at the texas tech club. brittany a vote to repeal and replace obamacare has hit a snag as the white house continues to grapple with questions about its alleged ties to russia. brook silva-braga has more. (track) president trump returned to his golf club in new jersey today, to watch the final round of the u-s women's open. the low-key setting was in stark contrast to the evolving controversy over donald trump junior's 2016 meeting with a russian lawyer who promised dirt on hillary clinton. (sot sen. mark warner, (d) virginia) "we may find out, there may have been other meetings as well - we don't know that yet. but what we've seen is a constant effort to hide contacts with russians." (track) this morning, the president once again defended his eldest son, tweeting, "my son don is being scorned by the fake news media." one of mister trump's lawyers later said there was nothing illegal about the meeting and the president only recently learned about it . (sot jay sekulow, attorney for president trump) "i need to be clear on this - the president's engagement on this was that he was not aware of it, and did not participate in any of this, so i want to be really clear on that." (track) the president's legislative agenda also hit a snag sunday. republicans postponed action on the health care bill as they wait for senator john mccain to return to washington. he's recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot above his eye and republicans needs his vote (sot sen. susan collins, (r) maine) "there are many of us who have concerns about this bill. /// it could lead to insurance plans that really are barely insurance..." (track) a new washington post- abc news poll puts the president's approval rating at just 36- percent... the lowest six-month mark for a president since 1975. brook silva-braga, for cbs news. brittany mister trump dismissed the results of that new poll, saying the same poll also predicted hillary clinton would win last year's election. brittany texas tech's former quarterback patrick mahomes will be back in lubbock tomorrow. the now kansas city chief will be at mcgavock nissan signing autographs for fans. the signing will startat 6 at the dealership. for 50-dollars you'll get an autographed action photo of mahomes during his time with the red raiders, a photo with the pro-football player and you can bring one additional item to be signed. proceeds from the event will benefit team-luke and high point village. brittany you still have a few more hours to celebrate national ice cream day. over at the science spectrum they spent the day doing just that through demonstrations and tasting of their liquid nitrogen ice cream. fun fact...president ronald reagan proclaimed today to be national ice cream day back in 19-84. brittany there's more news still to come ... including a look at how baseball's backing men in blue. that story's coming up.. but first lets check in with meteorologist jacie brianne... weather
