http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12452/7006675?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Wed, 19 Jul 2017 04:28:18 +0000 Gillette comes up short against Cheyenne Roughriders drop tight game 5-3. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12452/7006675?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KOTA vq>> the roughriders try to get past cheyenne. kota sports director>> the gillette baseball team is turning in another big season. the roughriders have rattled off four consecutive victories to run their record to 52-23. tonight gillette returned to the diamond to take on cheyenne. the roughriders come up a little bit short in this one as cheyenne earns the 5-3 victory. josh hughes drove in 2 runs on 2 hits for gillette. the riders return to action thursday when they take on their rivals from sheridan. the rush got some more coaching help yesterday as nello ferrara was named the team's assistant. as a player ferrara played 10 seasons in the minor leagues. ren clayton takes a closer look at how ferrara and daniel tay-trault are focused on building a winner. offseason of changes>> ren clayton>> the rush's new assistant coach was trying to play for the team last year. ferrara>> nello ferrara rush assistant coach>> "i knew that things were not good here. and that was basically what my specialty was. when somethings not working, i come in and try to get an atmosphere change and a spark out on the ice." ren clayton>> it didn't end up happening, but head coach daniel tetrault knew that with ferrara's experience playing briefly with 20 different organizations, and their interactions as opponents and teammates, ferrara was a perfect fit. ferrara>> "my last pro game was against allen, and he was there. i tore my shoulder out in the beginning of the game and at the end of the game i came out to the bus and sure enough he came up to me and shook my hand." tetrault>> danielt tetrault rush head coach>> "he's got a lot of contacts in the hockey world. he knows a lot of people. and that has helped the recruiting process here." ren clayton>> ferrara comes from the famous chicago candy company known for lemonheads and red hots. he left the family business for hockey... and he's talked to the press about it before, but right now he's focused on coaching. ferrara>> "go buy the new york times. read it yourself." ren clayton>> so we'll stick to hockey, too. tetrault and ferrara were in minnesota for the wild's development camp last week. and they've had contact with their new affiliate every day for the last few weeks. tetrault>> "i can't tell you how classy this organization is. and how they're willing to help us with players, as well." ren clayton>> tetrault said the skill level was high from the about 50 prospects he interacted with at the camp. tetrault>> "a lot of these kids that we've seen, that were in camp are going to be here in rapid. so the kids got to see us on the ice. so i think it's great to start that way, that they know us and we know them." ren clayton>> he didn't have a job in hockey at this time last year, now coach tetrault and the team that he's forming around him just want to start the season. ren clayton kota territory sports. yankees
