Fri, 28 Jul 2017 23:05:07 +0000Julious "Doc" Smith Honored in Lynn HavenJulious "Doc" Smith Honored in Lynn Havenhttp://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12513/7021599?cpt=8&wpid=2637WMBByou may have noticed two new signs on east 17th street in lynn haven. they were put up by the city to honor a local legend. as news 13 kristen mitchell tells us, the signs represent much more than the words printed on them. a year after julious smith' death, his son timothy remembers his father's impact on the community. timothy smith, julious smith's son "he could talk to anybody, it didnt matter who you were, color didnt matter, he could really relate to you on any kind of conversation, anything you had to talk about." his father opened doc's tire repair in 1973, but it wasn't until the entire family got involved that the business took off. timothy smith, julious smith's son "he had somebody who he could really depend on which was his boys. it was five of us at that time, and those five boys all had a part of this business." smith says his father's strong work ethic and compassion led to his success. timothy smith, julious smith's son "your work speaks for yourselff and when you do work that people are pleased with, word of mouth carries a long way." for four decades he worked, helping fix tires and connecting with people in the community all with a smile on his face. timothy smith, julious smith's son "he had a vision, and that vision was to actually make something of his own." in april of last year, smith passed away from liver cancer, but, didn't stop working until march. timothy smith, julious smith's son "my father took his chances you know and he probably should have been gone before that but he was just strong, man." juilious told his sons one day he hoped to have a sign with his name on this street and the brothers took his words to heart. timothy smith, julious smith's son "when he passed we thought we really got to move on this and see what we could do about it." they talked to the city manager and mayor margo anderson and now two signs stand on the street in his honor. now timothy and his brother chris run the shop and plan to continue his legacy of kindness on. timothy smith, julious smith's son "we got some big shoes to fill no doubt cause my dad had a big shoe believe me." in lynn haven, kirsten mitchell news 13. doc's tire repair only has four employees now but hopes to expand in the future.
