Prep Football Boot Camp 8-11-2017 Sat, 12 Aug 2017 02:48:22 +0000 Prep Football Boot Camp 8-11-2017 Prep Football Boot Camp 8-11-2017 WYZZ championship. <<kurt pegler>> the high school football season kicks off two weeks from tonight... we have three "boot camp" previews for you. first to normal west... the wildcats return an exciting offense from last year, headlined by senior running back genesis forrest... but head coach darren hess believes that the wildcat defense will be the key to success this season. <<(darren hess/normal west: i think our main emphasis in this high powered offense is to become a little bit better defensively, more consistent there. if we can just be a little bit more consistent defensively, i think great things will happen.genesis forrest/normal west senior: it's gonna be great man, we got a good team this year, we are feeling pretty confident on both sides of the ball this year. we are just an overall team this year.)>> normal west opens the season with a huge big 12 game at peoria high august 25th. <<kurt pegler>> could this be the year pekin breaks through in the mid-illini... the dragons return 12 satrters from a team that finished second in the conference a year ago. this team is big, confident and been together for awhile... they hope to become the first pekin team in 16 years to win a conference title. <<ian stubblefield/pekin senior: "i remember a lot of these guys since we were little, playing jfl. been with the same guys all year. i think we can just bring it home."brad johnson/pekin senior: "we're all pretty confident, we're looking good. we always have to keep coming and bringing it at practice. as of rightg now, we're feeling pretty good and we're confident about ourselves.">> <<kurt pegler>> pekin opens at home against oak forest two weeks from tonight. back to the big 12 for a stop at richwoods... where the knights haven't been very richwoods-like recently... the last teao years they're 5-and-13. coach roland brown says the biggest hurdle now is getting the richwoods swagger back... the players say they won as underclassmen, now it's time to do it on varsity. <<cody wright/richwoods senior: "our freshman year we went 9-0. so we don't want to lose, we are not a losing team. we want to win so we're going to work as hard as we can to change that."t'nahleg hall/richwoods senior: "this year we are way better than the [past three years. we are going to show people hat we can do. the tradition is the tradition.">><<kurt pegler>> richwoods opens at champaign central on august 25th.
