http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12464/7058940?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Thu, 24 Aug 2017 18:21:00 +0000 Movie Pets The popularity of a breed of dog sometimes spikes when a movie comes out. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12464/7058940?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KOTA some call it "the lassie effect"... when a movie comes out featuring a breed of dog that breed's popularity spikes... but that isn't a positive thing... the lassie effect trending today>> actor peter dinklage of game of thrones recently asked fans to stop buying huskies because of their resemblance to the show's direwolves... shelters were seeing an increase in huskies being brought in as many owners found out that the animals were more work than they anticipated... the trend started with the 1943 movie "lassie come home", and a later disney cartoon ?really? brought attention to the problem terry besler happy tails dog training>> 101 dalmatians was the worst because we got so many dalmatians that were uncontrollable. people didn't realize they need a lot of exercise and then they got a lot of behavioral problems. if they had known about the breed, they might not have gotten one if they didn't fit their lifestyle besler told us it really is a cyclical problem, as the popularity of the dog spikes, more "backyard breeders" begin breeding the dogs for money and then genetic traits, like deafness in dalmatians become more common.... besler recommended doing research and asking questions like "what is the dog bred to do? how big is the dog? does it shed? what are its natural tendencies"... and always remember a pet is a lifelong commitment experimental eating
