“It”: Film Critic Chuck Koplinski, Dinner and a Movie. Fri, 08 Sep 2017 15:56:37 +0000 “It”: Film Critic Chuck Koplinski, Dinner and a Movie “It”: Film Critic Chuck Koplinski, Dinner and a Movie. WCIA >>heather: one of highly anticipated films of the year hits screens this weekend. >>matt: here to talk about it is film critic, chuck koplinski. this is a book that was brought to the big screen. >> the book is 1000 pages. half. the first half of the book deals with the characters you see here and then it jumps forward 25 years when they are grown up. if this one does well, it is predicted it will set a record at the box office. we will expect part two soon. we see georgie, going out with his boat that his brother made for him. he makes a mistake unless that boat get away from him and down the sewer it will go. georgie is having a bad day. and it's about to get worse because he will lose that boat and make a new friend. a friend he calls penny wise. a malevolent clown. it doesn't get much scarier than this. once poor georgie disappears, his older brother. he knows something is up. he believes his brother is still alive. he gathers together six friends. they are referred to as the losers. they are picked on, believe. the other reason they band together is because they are having visions of this clown. they decide they've got to - - the clown lives down in the sewers that they are not sure be house is torn down to the ground. they ventured down twice to confront this clown. it's too long. it's two hours and 15 minutes. horror films have to be paced correctly. you build that suspense i want to let it lag, it's a bit of a problem. it, the creation, it finds out what you are scared of and it appears to you as that thing. it really becomes a herky-jerky kind of thing. this is effectively done. this guy knows how to make a movie. he made mama a few years back that was very well done. the clown is very creepy. what i like about this is the subtext. this is very much the subtext about what's going on now. the clown wants to divide them. wants to set the citizens of this town up against each other. the adults are viewed really as the big enemy of this movie because they are either abusive or they turn their heads away when they see something bad. like what we are going through now with these protests. perhaps with another clown that is dividing us. you can see our present situation through the prism of this film. >>matt: other stephen king films has hit the big screen. why has it taken - - years to get here. >> this is a big fan favorite. i think they just wanted to make sure they had the money together and the technology to do it right. when you look back at the - - series it is so tacky. here it is much more smooth, much scarier. they wanted to make sure the audience is ready for it. building that anticipation is fantastic. it got a lot of free publicity lately. they are predicting $60 million this opening week. >>heather: i would think they would release a closer to halloween. chuck koplinski with the review.
