"what happens now determines what happens to the rest of the world." that was a clip from "black panther", one of th newest movies to arrive in theaters. is the 18th marvel movie worth seeing? here to let us know is our film critic, wil loper this may be number 18, but things have never felt so fresh and new. "black panther" breathes life into the superhero movie, with its unique setting and emotionally resonant story. chadwick boseman is the black panther, t'challa, rising up to ascend the throne as king of wakanda, a technologically advanced kingdom hidden in africa. he protects their hidden world from those who would want to penetrate it, donning the black panther costume when he needs to. that is, until erik killmonger shows up to try and take over. what's great is erik isn't a generic bad guy, his motives make sense to him, and his past, so his arc carries a lot more weight. it's got action, it's got heart, it touches on heavier themes but doesn't feel on the nose with them, it's just a darn good time at the movies. 218 million debut over 4 days. largest february opening ever. fifth largest opening of all time. what's your rating? 4.3 black panther masks out of 5. next up: "early man" this comes from the studio that brought us wallace and gromit. a group of cavepeople happily live in a valley, until outsiders who have already advanced to the stone age kick them out. to steal the valley back, the cavepeople challenge the bronzepeople to a soccer match. there are lots of fun little moments, but none feel quite as original or brilliant as any of the wallace and gromit films. there's no penguin using remote control metal pants to rob a bank here. kids in my theater were laughing throughout, so if you're looking to entertain little ones for 90 minutes, "early man" will do th trick. what's your rating? 3 geico cavemen out of 5.
