March 10, 2018 Sun, 11 Mar 2018 04:19:56 +0000 Columbus boys defeat Meridian for Class 6A basketball title March 10, 2018 WTVA ABC Tupelo, MS is high... it's the final day of the state high school basketball championships in jackson. the final game of the season was for the class 6a boys title. two years ago, robert woodard and columbus won that title. tonight, the falcons taking on meridian, as they try to win their second state championship in three seasons. columbus led 15-9 after a quarter, but meridian's zone frustrated the falcons in the second quarter... wildcats tie it at 16 on this steal and dunk by miles miller... falcons find a way to beat the zone here and aaron johnson ties it at 18... luther riley, who coached columbus to its first state title in 2016 watches courtside.... the zone continued to frustrate the falcons in the second quarter... columbus only made two field goals, the second this r.j. deloach pull up jumper... meridian led 21-20 at the break... columbus comes out swinging in the third quarter.... robert woodard knocks down the corner three.... then woodard throws the long outlet to denijay harris who gets hoop and harm.... harris had a game-high 26 points.... falcons led bythree after three.... columbus goes on to win, 47-37, to capture the 6a boys title. wtva's andy lee has been in jackson covering the state high school championships. he joins us now live for a recap of this game. thanks jim.... carlyle: "ah, man, it was big, the kids, they've been fighting all year through adversity, us coming together trying to get it done for nine months, and they rolled to the challenge, we had our ups and downs, but they fought through it all, and they're champions today." harris: "it feels pretty good knowing all your hard work paid off through the summertime, all the way until now, i said, since i ain't doing anything on the free throw end, i gotta make it up on the inside and finish at the rim." back to you. one year ago, the starkville girls lost
