Jason Valentine reviews Tomb Raider Sat, 17 Mar 2018 00:22:28 +0000 Tomb Raider - View on Film Jason Valentine reviews Tomb Raider KVEW welcome back. movies that have been inspired from video games have not had a good track record in hollywood. we have another one today...tomb raider.hopefully it's better than that cautiously optomistic intro...our jason valentine let's you know if the franchise has any more life in it, in tonight's view on film. thanks mike......the producers of tomb raider seem to have a formula.....hire a recent oscar winner to play the role. its been 15 years since angelina jolie played the video game we get alicia vikander, who won oscar a few years ago......and much has changed for lara croft in the last decade and a this reboot, we meet a young lara croft who refuses to admit her father is dead.....and finds clues that lead her to believe he still may be alive........she travels to a dangerous island to find him......and dangerous island to find him......and has to save the world from peril in the process.i find it odd they decided to reboot the tomb raider series. lara croft at the start was a sexualized heroine in the video games.....and in the me too era, this just doesnt fit. they have toned down much of that with this one, and i must say alicia vikander is a star waiting to happen. the film tries to stay more or less grounded, and the action scenes are pretty well staged. this movie feels like a throwback to the 80's action films, without the cheesy humor. the bad guy here, is at time ruthless....and at time just plain dumb which is frustrating. i think if you're a fan of lara croft, you will enjoy this entry....which of course opens the door for more adventures.....but other than that......this would be good for a late night cable viewing. i do look forward to seeing vikander in more movies though....tomb raider, is ok...and it doesn't pretend to be more than it adaption of a video game. that's
