The suicide deaths of anthony bourdain and kate spade are sending shockwaves through the country. This, as experts say suicide rates have increased more than 2? Percent since 1999. Rob vaughn: those experts are urging everyone to recognize the warning signs.. And to seek help if needed. Wfmz's katiera winfrey spoke with local mental health experts.. Berks county isn't exempt... So far this year 27 people have taken their lives. While experts say additional resources help, but it's still a problem... And they hope billboards like this one prompts you to ask someone hurting. Reporter: suicide is personal but has impacts that stretch far and wide with the countless family members and friends left behind. Dr. Ed michalik/ suicide prevention task force "in terms of berks county the numbers are extremely high." Reporter: dr. Edward michalik is a part of the berks county suicide prevention task force. Formed in 2016 the group has made multiple efforts to slow suicide rates. But the work never ends. Dr. Ed michalik/ suicide prevention task force "we want people to know they can talk to us and we can help them find healthy alternatives." Reporter: in 2016 72 suicides were reported in berks county. A slight drop in in 2017 with 69. Between jan and may of this year there's been 27. Adults and children included. Amy groh/ suicide prevention task force "for the younger population they don't see beyond the very immediate concern they don't see themselves 2 years 10 years down the road." Reporter: the task force advertises with posters, billboards and even commercials. Crisis teams can deploy. Crisis hotlines and even crisis texting options are available. Amy groh/ suicide prevention task force "i think it's less intimidating so that people want to be honest." Reporter: amy groh is also on the task force. She says reasons people commit suicide are limitless. And experts say some people also don't get help because they feel they can afford it. The berks county suicide prevention task force also has resources available to people who may not be able to afford extended counseling. Wendy davis: thank you, katiera.
