Mineral Point baseball star nearly misses state playoff run for basic training

By Clip Syndicate
Uriah Ottoway has been playing baseball since he was a kid. He’s started every game since he joined the team in Mineral Point, but he almost missed this year’s historic state playoff run. The game was the same day he was to ship out for basic training.

(6) the team hasn't always been winners... so forgive uriah for not thinking they get to state this year until last week. sectionals 1:40 pretty wild i guess uriah was kind of bummed out on the way home we were all celebrating kind of he kind of just sat in his seat and was kind of sad because obviously his circumstances he wasn't going to be able to play (14) two commitments. one day. but uriah knew one commitment was bigger it was definitely a regretful feeling but after a few days of thinking about it i joined the military i signed a contract. 235 being in the military you make a lot of sacrifices for for the country in the community that you live in so he understood but i could tell he was pretty upset that he wasn't going to be able to play 11) 248 i told him i'm sorry if there's anything i can do i'll do it for you (2) sgt. thies sent a letter asking the pentagon to make an exception for a boy in a smalltown he found out he was able to play and he sent it in all captial letters you could tell he was excited. now back to the day before team moms ready the signs we don't go to state very often and when you do the whole town gets behind it. inside uriah fuels up for the game he thought he wouldn't play joking like a 17 year old would. excitement... pride... and a little fear. i'm proud of him. i know it will all be ok. uriah's drill sergeant said i'm proud of him. i know it will all be ok. uriah's drill sergeant said while this doesn't happen all the time... they do make exceptions.. especially for a game that has such a big impact on a town. amy reid reporting tonight... thanks amy.
