http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12449/7372726?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Wed, 13 Jun 2018 22:07:14 +0000 Salvation Army's baseball field in Salisbury gets a major renovation in one day Salvation Army's baseball field in Salisbury gets a major renovation in one day http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12449/7372726?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WMDT field. the diamond belongs to the salvation army and it hasn't gotten much love - at least - until today. 47 abc's justina coronel is live at the field in salisbury and has more. justina-- how's it looking out there? well first off-- i wasn't expecting to play some softball today but then again i couldn't believe that they could turn this field around in a matter of hours. it looks absolutely amazing-- i mean check it out. it looked completely different than when i arrived earlier today. but now the girls are out here playing their first game on their brand new field. and it's offering so much more than just a place to play some ball. this may just be a field for some people but for the salvation army this is a blessing. just imagine that they took about 30-40 gallons of water off the field just from the field from sunday night, we have horrible dirt. we couldn't stop the grass from growing in it. track 1 before this day-- the salvation army's softball team struck out when it came to finding the funds to repair their beloved diamond. but the maryland recreation and parks association avoided a loss-- by renovating it top-to-bottom in just one day. but they don't have the funds like our park and rec departments do they are tax funded. to get it like this, it would cost a lot of money which the salvation army just didn't have and myself and the volunteers we did most of the work to keep it going. track 2 over 40 volunteers pitched in to help and together they made a difference both on and off the field - giving the softball team pride - and helping at risk youth - to fall in love with the game. just playing as a team helps them with their self esteem and of course gets them active. some of our kids are from less fortunate neighborhoods and from areas that not really safe to play outside so this just gives them a safe place to be and safe place to come where they are able to enjoy themselves and make new friends. track 3 more than anything-- it's a way for children to feel apart of a team. it gives them a feeling of being a part of something bigger and i've say that to my kids all the time is when you are apart of something bigger it makes you so much bigger than yourself. again-- the volunteers really hit it out of the park with this one. and just a little fun fact. four years ago-- the community foundation gave the salvation army a grant for their women's fund to form a softball team and that team continues to grow. so this field couldn't come any sooner. ryan and julian back to you. thank you justina-- that was justina coronel live in salisbury. right now-- they don't have any dug outs due to donations. but we're told they are about to get brand new ones that are bigger and taller than the ones before. we want to hear what you think about the improvements made to this baseball field - tell us on 47 abc's facebook or twitter right now! well it's no secret - everybody likes a good deal. however if
